Mont D’Or AOC is a wonderfully, soft, resin scented, seasonal cow’s milk cheese that is eagerly looked forward to enjoy during the colder months of the year.
In the XIIᵉ century, there was a lack of milk production for Gruyère in the stables where the herds passed in winter. This forced producers to design smaller cheeses. For several centuries, the farmers of the Mont d'Or massif have been making this traditional Franc-Comtois cheese. In the 18th century, it was served on the table of Louis XV. He appreciated it for the smoothness and creaminess of its paste.
